What We Do

At Sustainable Water Tanzania, we tackle critical water and environmental challenges through a range of impactful programs, including;

1. Environment and Water Resources Protection
  • We collaborate with communities to monitor and improve water sources management, prevent pollution, and promote safe water practices. Our initiatives include water sources boundaries demarcation, planting trees, awareness campaigns, and infrastructure support for sustainable wastewater management.
  • Identify and map critical water sources (e.g., rivers, lakes, groundwater).
  • Establish community-led water source protection committees.
  • Implement watershed management practices (e.g., reforestation, soil erosion control).
  • Construct and maintain water source protection infrastructure (e.g., fencing, buffer zones).
  • Promote sustainable water use practices among communities.
2. Community Awareness & Capacity Building
  • Through targeted campaigns, workshops, and school programs, we raise awareness about water conservation and inspire a culture of environmental stewardship across generations.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions on water conservation, sanitation, and environmental protection.
  • Develop and distribute educational materials (e.g., brochures, posters, videos) in local languages.
  • Organize community outreach events (e.g., tree planting, clean-up campaigns).
  • Train local leaders and volunteers as WASH and environmental champions.
3. Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH)
  • We implement projects like rainwater harvesting, afforestation, and climate-smart agriculture to strengthen communities' ability to adapt to the effects of climate change.
  • Construct and rehabilitate water supply systems (e.g., boreholes, rainwater harvesting systems).
  • Build and promote the use of improved sanitation facilities (e.g., latrines, handwashing stations).
  • Conduct hygiene promotion campaigns (e.g., handwashing, menstrual hygiene management).
  • Provide WASH kits (e.g., soap, water purification tablets) to vulnerable households.
  • Train community health workers on WASH practices.
4. Climate Resilience & Environmental Sustainability
  • Through targeted campaigns, workshops, and school programs, we raise awareness about water conservation and inspire a culture of environmental stewardship across generations.
  • Promote climate-smart agricultural practices (e.g., drought-resistant crops, agroforestry).
  • Implement reforestation and afforestation projects.
  • Support renewable energy initiatives (e.g., solar-powered water pumps).
  • Develop community-based climate adaptation plans.
  • Conduct climate risk assessments and vulnerability mapping.
5. Policy Advocacy & Governance
  • We work closely with government agencies, private sector partners, and other stakeholders to promote better water governance, strengthen policy frameworks, and secure investments in sustainable water management.
  • Engage with local and national governments to advocate for water and environmental policies.
  • Conduct research and produce policy briefs on water and environmental issues.
  • Organize multi-stakeholder forums to discuss policy challenges and solutions.
  • Build the capacity of local governments to implement water and environmental policies.
  • Monitor and report on policy implementation and compliance.
